Events and Happenings
Take a few undergraduates and some alumni who think they're still 22, put paintball guns in their hands and send them out on a field to play "Capture the Flag" and what do you get? A day of laughs, great times and a few sore muscles!

In November, alumni and undergraduates participated in the first annual paintball battle and from the comments received, it was a tremendous success. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed time spent with the brothers.
Getting Ready for the GamesDespite what the "young guns" might say, the alumni managed to hold their own, winning a vast majority of the games played. In fact, while eating a finely prepared meal at the local McDonald's afterwards, the guys were already scheming how it was going to be different next time.

Next up for alumni and undergraduates is a "Texas Hold 'Em Tournament" to be scheduled in January. Additionally, be on the lookout for spring events including, a "March Madness" gathering, a golf tournament on Founder's Day, and an alumni vs. undergraduate softball game in May.

Details of the "Texas Hold 'Em Tourney" will be announced following holiday break. Other event details will be announced in mid-January.
Undergraduate News

Brannon Wright, Junior, was re-elected to serve as the High Alpha, putting him in an elite group of men who have served back-to-back terms as the chapter's President. He is joined by 11 other distinguished gentlemen who will continue the charge in fraternal excellence. Congratulations and good luck to our new officers!

Chapter Initiates Three
On November 23, the Theta Lambda chapter welcomed three Associates into the bond of brotherhood. Following an incredible and memorable "P.I. Week", the chapter flawlessly conducted the initiation ritual. Congratulations to our newest brothers, welcome to Lambda Chi Alpha!

Pause for Reflection
In the midst of the holiday season, we oftentimes get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, buying gifts and preparing to head home for a long-awaited rest. Seldom do we actually get the time to look back on the year, celebrate our successes and learn from our errors. Fortunately, I had the chance to do just that a couple of weeks ago. Along with the undergraduates and a few alumni, we witnessed our time-honored initiation ritual. With each passing oath and lesson, I thought of the many different things that were and are important to me. As the more I thought about things, the more I realized that we have a special place at Simpson College. Over the past decade, our chapter has done so much to help so many but despite the many accolades and honors the chapter has received over the years, we as alumni have not truly thanked our undergraduate ambassadors for a job well-done.

In 1987, a group of undergraduates vowed that they would do whatever it took to keep the doors open at "605 North C Street" and we did. Throughout the 90s, the chapter flourished in all areas. Through the ongoing support of the alumni and a strong alumni Board, the chapter accomplished amazing things. At one point, in fact, the chapter nearly reached 50 members. More importantly, however, is that out of that decade came some outstanding brothers who have stepped up to the plate and have volunteered to sit on your Alumni Board. Brothers like Pat Lyons, Dave Lyons, Tom Dannen, Charlie Chedester, Matt Mallinger and others have invested the time to help secure the future for the fraternity. Other brothers like Rhett Routh, Danny McCraine, Dan Doherty and Tim Reuter, have gone above and beyond the call of duty and have served in a variety of roles at the International Level.

As we enter the dawn of a new generation, it is vitally important to keep this momentum alive and moving. We have an excellent product at Simpson. They continue to dedicate their lives to bettering the chapter, not only at the local level, but throughout North America. I have full faith and confidence in the undergraduate chapter's ability to carry the torch and to continue to do great things. What we need now are alumni to support them in their efforts. Whether it is volunteering time, attending an event, writing a check or sitting on the Board, we need your help now more than ever.

There was a time when you couldn't go a weekend without finding a few alumni roaming the halls, either looking for something to do or volunteering to help repair or fix something. It would be wonderful if we could return to those days. Imagine the possibilities.

On behalf of the undergraduate chapter, the Alumni Board and the general fraternity, I would like to wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season and prosperous New Year.

-ZAX,
Mike
